Well Hello!

  • Sep. 11th, 2009 at 7:51 PM

Hello internets!

I haven't been around lately.  Too busy working 10 hour days, hanging out with my hubby, getting my suntan on, reading, and generally living life.

So here's all the news that's fit to spit:

1. I totally have bangs now.  And I look totally cool.

2. Joost moves to Boston today, with Dave in tow.  Well, actually, Dave is just towing the U-Haul (with my car, no less).  I try to think of it as less of losing a friend and more like gaining a new coffee table and a cool globe that's also a lamp.  Or a lamp that's also a globe.  Hmmm.....

3.  I have zero friends now, but I'm working a lot and going to the gym AND trying to see my husband sometimes, so I'm not so depressed about that.  Yet.

4.  When the husband's away, the wife will watch Friends and drink whiskey.  What?  It's an expression.

5.  Baked potatoes take fucking FOREVER to bake.

6.  I've been an ex-smoker for.....a month and a week?  Pretty good, right?

7.  I've read the entire series of Southern Vampire Mysteries.  They. Are. Awesome.  Go get them.

8.  In Dutch, the expression translates to:  "when the cat is away, the mice will dance on the tables".

9.  I had a fab time in Maine, saw lots of people I loved.  Then Dave and I went to a theme park and went on lots of roller coasters.  Then we went camping in Shenendoah National park and saw bears, deer, skunks, and a turkey!  'Twas fun!

Anyway, sorry I haven't been around more, I really hope you all are well.

I haven't smoked a cigarette in a week.

I want to go to the zoo today.  Hoping Rebecca might want to go along.

My dad says it's cool if you pick me up and come to hang in East Milly with Diana.  Tried to call you last night with specifics.  Will try again tonight.

To the rest of you:  I"ll post an update soon, but right now - work.

Kaddish, For Uncle Manny

  • Jul. 30th, 2009 at 9:49 PM

Wow, a real update.

I'm off hard liquor, so I was perplexed when my bf Rebecca asked me to go to Dain's (our local bar) after work.  I had 2-3 smallish glasses of white wine, and I am not falling down wasted, but instead, tipsy and giggly, with more money in my pocket than the alternative.  I am, admittedly, having trouble with typing/spelling.

I got my hair did today.  I have bangs now, and layers.   It's still long, and it looks....fab.  My bangs keep poking me in my eyes, but I'll deal.  Truly, I love how it looks.  It made a big difference!!!

As I type this I am munching on one of those 100 calorie bags of popcorn (disappointing, but probably for the best).  I am also watching an episode of Northern Exposure called "Kaddish, For Uncle Manny".  It is good.  They're mostly all good.

I am disgustingly in love with Dave.  Lately we have been reading The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes aloud before bed, from the Precious Kindle.  I don't know whether he does it to pacify me, or if he really likes the story, but I cannot think of a more fun activity.  Sherlock Holmes is a fantastic character with thrilling plot lines and captivating scenarios.  Plus, we like to giggle over the obvious homosexual undertones between him and Dr. Watson.   "Are you armed?"  "I have only my riding crop."  Wtf do you need a riding crop in the library for?  Oh, wait....I see....  :P

Oh!  Also, I'm reading Dune for the first time.  It. Is. Awesome.

1. Saw Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, and I'm here to tell you - it. was. awesome!!!!

2. Got "shopped" at work.  Customer surveys, you know.  One was perfect.  Literally, a perfect score.  The other.....sucked.  Sucked.  *sigh*  So, on the one hand, I'm a really, really, really awful bank teller.  But on the other hand, I'm a superb, wonderful, awesome bank teller.  Either way, my manager wants to "talk" tomorrow.  So I decided to talk tonight, to a bottle of a tequila.  It was very understanding.

3. All I want to do is listen to Phish now.  Seriously.  It's like, seeing them live flipped some kind of Phish switch, and I can't turn it off.

4. Dave's 30th birthday is on the 21st.  I wanna say....Tuesday.  Ok, I looked at my calendar.  Wanna fight about it?  Anyway, his father's sent him a brand new Kindle, and I'm positively burning with jealousy.  Oh well, you only go 'round once, right?

HALP!

There's a spider on my kitchen wall!!!!!!!  Now, normally I'd strap on a pair of balls and smush it with a paper towel.  We're out of paper towels.  Should I:

a) Ignore it, and accept the creepy crawly feeling I get whenever I'm in the kitchen and my back is to the spider.
b) Wake Dave up from his nap.
c) Put on some full-body armor, catch Chloe, drag her into the kitchen, hold her up to the wall, and hope the spider bleeds to death before I do.

Hmmmmm......

P.S.

This weekend has been a blur.

Friday we had an impromptu keg party, which was a hit.  Lots of friends came, including Clay and Erica, and Rebecca and Brandon, and lots of other lovely people (and a few not-so-lovely).

Spent yesterday hung over as fuck, lying in bed with Dave.

Now I'm cleaning, watching Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.   I'm SO in the mood for HP right now, as the new movie comes out on Wednesday (woo hoo!!!).

Hope everyone is having a swell weekend.

Son Of A Bitch!!!

  • Jun. 29th, 2009 at 7:37 PM

I'm having a hard time at work.  I mostly don't fit in at all, and I keep making errors.  There is this one wonderful lady that sits beside me who's funny and sweet and helpful, and very non-judgmental.  She is my sunshine.  But other than that, I'm struggling kids.  It sucks.  I can't even be a bank teller.  I just can't seem to pay enough attention, or something, and the more I fuck up, the more distracted I get.

There was this bitchy rover at the branch last week.  Before she left, she said nice, polite, even sweet goodbyes to everybody else.  To me, she says, "Melissa, you've really got a lot to learn".   People, she's barely 21 years old!  I could've choked her skinny ass.  I was pissed, and, truth be told, I really let it get to me.  What a skank.

In other news, I'm going to Maine in August.  Hallelujah.  Time off from work scheduled, plane tickets purchased (by my parents, I'm so cool).  I'm ready.

Speaking of my parents, why the fuck haven't they come to visit me in NC?  I've been here for 3 goddamned years!!!  It's not like they've got much else to do, God damn it.  I feel supremely unloved.

Fucking hell.

*sigh*

Yeah, I know.  Fucking wah.

Been a wonderfully lazy and relaxing weekend.

Dave and I finished building a bench for our backyard.  It looks pretty good, but I think I managed to sand off my fingerprints in the process :P.

Now Dave is making mini-cheeseburgers and I'm drinking wine and watching Hardy Boys Nancy Drew Mysteries.  I don't know whether it's the wine or the funny clothes/hair styles, but I'm enjoying it.  I love murder mysteries anyway.  When Doctor Who did that Agatha Christie episode, I was supremely excited.

We watched a LOT of Netflix this weekend:

Mr. & Mrs. Smith
Rocky
Ugly Betty
Torchwood
and
Scrubs

Hey, it's hot outside, OK?

Don't wanna go back to work tomorrow, but hey, it pays the bills, so I probably will.

Cheers.

Rest In Peace

As you all probably know, Michael Jackson died today.

While he may have been a total weirdo, he was also a musical genius, and he could wear the shit out of a red leather jacket.

I'm trying to embed my favorite video, but it is unembeddable.   Yes, I made that up.  Check it out here:   www.youtube.com/watch

I'm so pissed that I can't post the video, because it's truly great.  It's awesome.  Go watch it.  It's fucking star-studded.

This song and video are often overlooked, but are both superb.  The Liz Taylors are just great.  And how he finally breaks free from the roller coaster at the end??!!

*sigh*

I'm just so bummed that Michael Jackson died.  I really thought he'd live to be a crazy old perverted man.

He wrote all his songs, and most of them were great, and he was probably one of the best dancers ever to live.

Rest in peace Michael Jackson.

I really believe you deserve to.

I loved and idolized this man as a child.  I think he even may be responsible for my long hair fetish.

I'm Not Even Sure How to Put This.....

Upon returning from the doctor's office, I am very unhappy to report that I have pink eye.

Pink.  Eye.

Why???

Just......why?

Well, I'm feeling a bit better today.  Still have gross white "puss pockets"  (the doctor's term, not mine) on the back of my throat near my tonsils.  However, every second that I spend waiting for the codeine to kick in is NOT pure, unbridled agony like it has been for the past few days.  Score!  I might just try to eat solid foods today.  Maybe just scrambled eggs or something, keep it on the safe side.  Two days ago when I ate chicken noodle soup the noodles felt like knives!

On another note, I've lost more weight.  I know, I know, anyone who looks at me (or at my bonnaroo pics) can see that I'm still quite heavy, but, being weighed at the doctor's office confirmed that I've lost a total of 15 pounds over the past few months.  Technically, 35 pounds to go till I'm at the "ideal" weight for my height, but I don't really see that happening.  Truthfully I'll be happy with another 15.

Anyway, hurrah for feeling better, I'll keep you updated on the puss pockets (you know you're super interested).

Have a good weekend, all!

Um....

  • Jun. 19th, 2009 at 12:07 PM

Sorry everyone.

It seems that I'm not exactly handling this strep throat thing very well.....I've been in constant pain and haven't been able to really eat, sleep, or smoke cigarettes in at least two days, and its made me, well, kind of a wreck.  I just went totally off on Dave for "not taking care" of me enough.  God bless him, he's doing the best he can, but I just feel so horrible.

Anyway, I do apologize for being so very bitchy, especially since I"ve been totally slacking on commenting on all of your lovely journals as of late.

So, to sum up, I suck, but not as much as strep throat.

I'm sure the antibiotics will kick in soon enough and I'll be less of a raging cunt.

Bonnaroo Update

  • Jun. 17th, 2009 at 1:29 PM

Bonnaroo was super fun!

We saw the Beastie Boys, Ani Difranco, Snoop Dogg, Phish, and some others I've never heard of.  My biggest regret was passing out super early on Saturday and missing Nine Inch Nails and MGMT.  Ugh.  What a bummer.  Turns out it was the last time NIN will be playing in the US.  Dave went to see MGMT, and he said it was really good.

Anyway, Phish was AWESOME, and so were the others.  The Beastie Boys played "Paul Revere", which was awesome, and Snoop did a rendition of Lodi Dodi with special guest Erika Badu.  Speaking of special guests, on Sunday, for the second Phish show, Bruce freakin' Springsteen came onstage and did a few songs with them.  It was pretty neat.

Anyway, have some pictures:
